Worthen Arena, Ball State University
Muncie, Indiana
This 12,000-seat, multipurpose arena replaces the 6,600-seat Irving Gymnasium as the home for men's and women's varsity basketball and provides a much-needed venue for commencements, concerts and community events. The first nine rows are retractable seating platforms, which create an intimate arrangement. When these platforms are retracted, the 19,000-square-foot floor allows for three basketball cross courts and for events requiring floor seating. The arena is designed for major media use and features fixed camera positions, high-intensity illumination, reserved dock space for production trucks, permanent cable runs and accessible up-link locations. It has also been used in volleyball.
