Indiana University Jacobs School of Music North Studio Building
The Jacobs School of Music has international educational recognition and acclaim around the globe. With more than 1600 students, it plays a key role in educating not just its students, but also performers, music educators who influence music performance and scholars alike. The school boasts more than 160 faculty who reside at the university and are performers, scholars, and teachers recognized at the international level. The school provides over 1100 performances per year, including seven fully staged operas.
The school is currently housed in five buildings on the historical Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana campus. This project involves the design of a new building that will replace the Music Addition that is north of and attached to Merrill Hall. The program focus of the North Studio Building will be faculty studios, instrument and vocal practice rooms, classrooms and storage. The assignable square footage is 82,667 sf.
The project is made possible by a $44 million gift from Lilly Endowment. In addition to the North Studio Building, the project involves pre-schematic planning of future phases for the continued growth of facilities at the Jacobs School of Music. Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Architects is working with Flad Architects, collaborative consultant for the project.
