Baseball, Softball Get New Digs at IU Bloomington

Truly magnificent. Spectacular. Fantastic. First-class. Those are some of the words used to describe the recently dedicated Bart Kaufman Baseball and Andy Mohr Softball stadia, Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf’s newest projects at Indiana University.

Yes, it’s hard to believe, but IU Hoosiers stands for more than basketball. In fact, IU Athletics boasts 24 highly rated Big Ten sports and Browning Day is proud of its contributions to Hoosier Nation.

The two projects, located near the 45/46 Bypass, have truly transformed the north edge of IU’s athletic campus with a distinctive design quality and personality that seamlessly blends with neighboring facilities, thanks to a careful selection of materials. Traditional elements give a nod to IU’s long history of Athletic excellence while modern accents keep pace with the contemporary design of ballparks.

Player enthusiasm and fan movement on a recent trip to both stadia confirmed that the architect’s design challenge of a great facility, that inspires athletes to give their best effort and keeps spectators engaged in the ongoing game from hospitality and concession areas has been met. Andy Mohr Softball Stadium has skinned infield and natural grass outfield whereas Bart Kaufman Baseball Stadium is all artificial turf.  The new team clubhouse, lounge, locker rooms, and the indoor and outdoor hitting cages are a hit with softball and baseball players alike. The softball stadium has one hospitality suite, while the Baseball stadium has two suites. A new 1,800 square foot press box, a scoreboard, lighting and sound systems have been added to each stadium.  Ample parking, entry plazas, and picnic areas further enhance fan experience.

IU Baseball Coach, Tracy Smith, said “Everyone who has been to Bart Kaufman Field, in their own words, say it is the best in the country.”
