IU Health retained Browning Day to create a comprehensive master plan of their Saxony campus, on more than 100 acres in Fishers, Indiana. In addition to the Master Plan, the firm completed this major hospital’s landscape architecture, including the streetscape, hardscape and a healing garden.
Following a low impact approach to the site, storm water quality was addressed through natural best management practices, while parking, pedestrian circulation and open space arrangements were strategically designed to reduce overall maintenance on the large site. The design delivered economical solutions in a native ecosystem, and ultimately provided positive health benefit to patients, staff, visitors and the environment.
One example that brought value to the overall construction budget was the reuse of canopy trees in an existing parking lot to create an edge along the adjacent interstate.
