Track and FieldUnited States of America

Athlete performance in Track and Field is greatly affected by the condition of the track. Materials, quality of design and installation play a very critical role in this sport where a tenth of a second is the difference between setting a new record and getting a gold medal. Browning Day recently completed improvements to the Billy Hayes Track at Indiana University. The restoration of the track included a complete removal of the old synthetic surface and asphalt sub-base at the running track, ‘D’ zone, pole vault and long jump areas. To complete the restoration, Browning Day installed a 13 mm Polytan PUR, poured urethane synthetic surfacing with an embedded texture finish on the track, a first in North America at the time. Immediately after students started using the restored track, their performance improved greatly, setting new time records. Other track and field projects include the IUPUI track, Reggie Lewis Track at Roxbury Community College, and the University of Louisville Track at Cardinal Park.
